Public consultations of the project "Flood Risk Management Plan for the International Area of Oder River Basin"

2 April 2015 r.

Representatives of the National Water Management Authority and Regional Water Management Authorities in Wrocław, Gliwice and Szczecin actively participated representing Poland in the preparation of the project „Flood Risk Management Plan for the International Area of Oder River Basin” (FRMP for the IAORB), a part of the works executed by the International Commission for the Protection of the Oder River against Pollution.

On April 1st, the FRMP for the IAORB was disclosed on the ICPORP's website in order to undergo the process of public consultations http://mkoo.pl/index.php?mid=29&aid=967&lang=PL. Consultations will be open until 22 June 2015. Details are available on the ICPROP's website.

The document relates to the international coordination performed in accordance with article 8 section 2 in conjunction with article 7 of the Directive 2007/60/EC of the European Parliament and the Council on the assessment and management of flood risks (the so called Flood Directive) encompassing and presenting measures undertaken in Poland, Czech Republic and Germany aiming at achieving objectives connected with flood risk management.

Draft project covers all aspects of flood risk management, in particular measures which attempt at preventing, protecting and correct preparation, including flood forecasting and early warning systems, addressing the specific situation of the International Oder River Basin.

Included in the Draft Flood Risk Management Plan for the International Area of Oder River Basin consistent with the Flood Directive, the aforementioned measures have been harmonized with the measures listed in the Water Management Plans (Directive 2000/60/EC). Implementation of both directives has been coordinated, particularly with regards to improving efficiency, information sharing and joint benefits aimed at meeting environmental objectives laid down by the Framework Water Directive. Updated Draft Water Management Plan consistent with the Framework Water Directive for the IAORB has also been published on the ICPROP's website for the purpose of public consultations.
