RWMA regional conference in Kraków

2 June 2015 r.

Nearly 90 people involved in water management attended this regional conference on May, 26. Hosted by the Jagiellonian University, it was one of the last meetings organized under the public consultations that end on June, 22 and concern the Flood Risk Management Plans.

Kraków’s conference was dedicated to the Flood Risk Management Plan covering the water region of Upper Vistula River. It was officially opened by Krzysztof Kondziołka – Head of the Flood Prevention Department in the Regional Water Management Authority in Kraków. He emphasized how important is the continuous debate devoted to the Plans as it will help to avoid any doubts upon the implementation. He also hoped that with the help of public consultations “the final draft Plans will be good and sound and in 6 years, they will be assessed positively not just by our country but across the European Union.”

During the presentation, experts who are also co-authors of the aforementioned documents, introduced the subject of the Flood Risk Management Plans to the participants, presenting the scope and methodology behind the drafting. Next, they presented technical and non-technical measures in the discussed water region. The last presentation concerned legal instruments supporting flood management.

The conference included three debate sections with many questions asked and answers given. All justified comments will be taken into account when drafting the final version of the documents.

We would like to remind you that you can still submit your comment until 22 June 2015 via the website www.powodz.gov.pl, and in the office of the National Water Management Authority (NWMA – KZGW) and in all regional water management authorities.
