Regional conference in Gliwice

17 June 2015 r.

On Tuesday, 16 June, Gliwice held the last of the conferences dedicated to the public consultations of draft FRMP. Co-organised by the Regional Water Management Authority in Gliwice and attended by more than 70 stakeholders, the conference completed the series of more than 30 meetings dedicated to the drawing up of the key flood protection documents.

The keynote topics of the conference were the draft Flood Risk Management Plans for the water regions of Little Vistula and Upper Oder. Officially, the meeting was opened, on behalf of the Director of the RWMA, by Linda Hofman, spokesperson of the RWMA, who mentioned in her speech the main motto of the campaign: “It’s not my problem…” saying that it is quite perverse because in fact the problem of the flood risk concerns everyone and we should never underestimate it. After saying that, she encouraged to use the last remaining days of the public consultations wisely and effectively, and to continue submitting comments and motions to the discussed plans.

During the conference, the participants had an opportunity to listen to four presentations dedicated to the goals, the scope and the methodology of the works conducted in individual water regions as well as legal instruments supporting flood risk management.

Attendees were very active during the discussion panels and asked experts and representatives of the RWMA and the NWMA numerous questions concerning the existing flood infrastructure, the proposed technical and non-technical measures and the expected law amendments.

Although the conference has already ended, public consultations will continue until 22 June 2015. Until then, it is still possible to submit comments via www.powodz.gov.pl, and in the headquarters of the National Water Management Authority (NWMA) and all regional offices of the Water Management Authority, where all interested parties can familiarise with the aforementioned documents.
